About the author
Tyanna Snider, Psy.D. is a psychologist in the Pediatric Psychology Program at Nationwide Children's Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She is the team psychologist for the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition including the Bariatric Surgery Program; provides consultation/liaison services for the General Medical service; and provides outpatient therapy and evaluation.
Dr. Snider's research focuses on the treatment and psychosocial functioning of children and adolescents who are identified as overweight and obese.

Juan F. Sotos, MD, has been a practicing pediatric endocrinologist for over 50 years.He will be retiring in 2015 after many significant contributions to the field, including the characterization of Sotos Syndrome.

Mark Splaingard, MD, is the director of the Sleep Disorders Program at Nationwide Children's Hospital and is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and sleep medicine. Dr. Splaingard's research has concentrated on the outcomes of children with chronic pulmonary disease and acquired neurological disorders with a recent focus on sleep disorders in children.

Madison Storm is the Senior Strategist of Research Communications at Nationwide Children's Hospital. She earned her bachelor's in multimedia journalism from Virginia Tech in 2021 and went on to achieve her master's in health communication from Johns Hopkins University in 2023. Her passion for transforming the complex to clear is supported by various experiences writing for consumer audiences.

Dr. Stukus is director of the Complex Asthma Clinic and a physician in the Section of Allergy/Immunology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He is also assistant professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. His clinical and research interests focus on asthma and food allergies, especially improving education and adherence for patients and families. As part of his research, Dr. Stukus has created novel technology and educational tools using mobile health apps to improve the care of patients, for which he was recognized with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatrics Junior Faculty Award for Innovation in November 2013. Dr. Stukus has been an active member of the medical advisory team for Kids with Food Allergies since 2009 and was elected to the Board of Directors for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America in 2014.

Joseph Drew Tobias, MD joined Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2010 as chief of the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine. Dr. Tobias oversees Anesthesia Services, Pain Medicine and Sedation across the hospital. He leads the Nationwide Children's Hospital Anesthesiology team in the management of anesthesia care for the entire spectrum of surgical diseases from complex congenital heart surgery through solid organ transplantation. Dr. Tobias came to Nationwide Children's Hospital from the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics in Columbia, Missouri.

Dr. Andrew Tran is an assistant professor in The Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital with a focus on Pediatric Cardiology and Preventive Cardiology, helping to care for children with cholesterol disorders and hypertension. Before joining Nationwide Children's, Dr. Tran completed his cardiology fellowship in Dallas, TX at the University of Texas Southwestern and a preventive cardiology fellowship in Cincinnati, OH at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Tran is passionate about understanding vascular changes in children with cardiovascular risk factors and being creative in providing cardiovascular preventive care.

Deborah Ungerleider, MD, FAAP, earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)/Rutgers Medical School in Piscataway, NJ in 1985, following earning a BA in biology at Barnard College/Columbia University. She went on to complete a pediatric residency and chief residency at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital. She is an experienced pediatrician with more than 30 years of working in private pediatric offices and being on staff at several community hospitals. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Her medical writing and editing experience has included writing educational articles for her patients, in addition to editing medical journal articles for various specialty journals. Dr. Ungerleider now works as a freelance medical writer and editor, using her medical expertise, as well as her organizational and writing skills to assist clients with medical communication projects directed at both clinicians and lay audiences.
